our tree

This was only the second year we have ever cut down our Christmas year.  We thought it would be really great to drive to the farm to get a fresh tree.  We found our favorite tree almost instantly.  Perfectly shaped and perfectly full.  It even came with it's very own birds nest.  We couldn't understand why everyone passed up this beauty!  The tree stand has never been without water, yet it is truly drying up before our very eyes.  It is shrinking and we can literally hear the needles falling onto the hardwood floor like gentle raindrops.  I'm thinking that by January 1st we will be left with our very own Charlie Brown Tree.

  1. This is why traditionally people cut down and decorated the tree Christmas Eve and took it down at Epiphany. So it was only up the 12 days of Christmas.

  2. I always fill my stand with almost boiling water for the first few days. It helps! Ours has been up for a couple of weeks and is still drinking. It will stop, though. Just waiting for it to happen.

  3. I've been to the tree farm where we've found a great tree, right off the bat, but have to 'keep looking' because 'what if there are even better ones out there?'

  4. Our tree always ends up that way because Someone forgets to water it. (I'll never admit that I might be that someone.) Hope you still have a needle or two left on Christmas.

  5. I know , how thirsty are they. This is the first year for a long time having a real tree. I love the smell and the natural look.

  6. This happened to us many years ago and we made the switch to an artificial tree. I miss the smell and the fun of picking it out, but I thought the thing was going to fall completely apart before Christmas! Plus, the dog kept drinking the water every single day (gross!). I'm sure it's beautiful...just like all you do!!
