fudgy brownie batter truffles

I'm always trying to sneak in foods that lean towards the healthier side.  It really isn't that hard with the regular meals, however, when it comes to the sweets, I seem to struggle a bit.  So, when I saw these pop up over on Julie's site, I knew I had to make them.
Grain free, vegan chocolatey goodness, I tell you!  The texture is a tiny bit different, but I promise those kids will never know they contain chick peas.  They truly are delicious.
We didn't have any chocolate nut butter, so I used almond butter and added some cocoa powder.  The truffles sprinkled with shredded coconut are my favorite.  I double the recipe and popped some in the freezer for those afternoons I spend with my yarn.

Happy Saturday!

pink memories progress

So, I have been making a little progress on my Pink Memories sweater, and am determined to finish it within the next week or so.  It's been hanging around here for too long!
I finished the first sleeve a while ago.  And then the dreaded happened.  SSS.  Second Sleeve Syndrome.
I believe a big part this is due with the needles I am using.  I didn't feel like using double pointed needles.  And I didn't have a needle long enough to knit in the magic loop method.  So, I am using two separate circular needles.  And one always seems to be in the way.  Oy.
I've been sort of obsessed with these little treats.  I can't wait to share them with you... but we are expecting some people in about an hour for a little gathering we are having for Steve's daughter who is getting married in 23 days!  Oh boy.  That's a pretty long run on sentence.
I'll be back tomorrow.

100x simple

First off, I did not make those yarn cakes.  But, I seriously can't wait until my swift arrives so that I can.  I keep tracking (stalking) the package!
Second.  I am in LOVE with this yarn.  Seriously in love.
One morning while knitting with some friends, my friend Linda, pulled out her 100x simple cowl.  A few of us instantly fell in love and were immediately on the phone ordering yarn.  This is some of the most incredible yarn! Light and lofty and no two skeins are alike.  So, each of our cowls will be different.  When ordering, we explained to the woman on the phone the colors we liked.  She text us photos of some skeins.  We each put 4 choices together.  We ordered.  She shipped.  Before we knew it, we all had 100x simple cowls on the needles!
I decided to keep this project stashed in this bag and keep it in the car.  (Mostly... It may come out for movies.)  It requires absolutely no thought and can be worked on while waiting for Andrew to be picked up.  Or traffic to move.  Or the light to turn green.

Happy weekend, Friends!

the story of the tie-dye cake

diy
Libby and her girlfriends made a tie-dye cake when she was home and it turned out great.  It's not that it was that delicious, but it was really a lot of fun to look at.  The colors were super vibrant and beautiful.  I had it on my instagram story and received several comments on how to make one.  SO, I put together a little tie-dye cake story here. :)
I used a white cake mix and divided it into 6 cups.  Used food coloring to tint the batter.
Poured each color into a 6" cake pan.
Repeated 2 more times!
Layered and decorated.  (I think I should take a cake decorating class.)
The colors are not as vibrant and I am sure it is because I did not use as much food coloring.
I think I could have been neater when filling the cake pans to look less like a project my kids would have made when they were younger!
Anyhow, it was really a fun cake to make AND eat!  And in the end... it's really all about the frosting.

a few things

Oh dear.  My head is spinning with projects and things I want to make.  Complete A.D.D.  It's okay.  I am in touch with how this usually happens to me at the beginning of a new year.  Over the next week or two, I'm going to try to organize it in this space.
I'll also be waiting for my first swift and winder to arrive.  Yep, my very first.   I like rolling balls of yarn.  But, I also love yarn cakes.  There truly is something completely and utterly delicious about a yarn cake.

her second sock

Well, my Libby will be headed back to Boulder for her second semester on Saturday.  Oh, how I loved this winter break.  It truly is such a joy to see your children grow.
I finished her second sock and am so grateful that she loves them so much.  She pledged Delta Gamma in the fall and pink and blue are the sorority colors.  I am so grateful my kids love their hand knits... and like I said, this hand knit is a dream to take care of.  Machine wash and dry.  Perfect for college kids!
And how cute are these jeans?!  We bought them at Francesca's but I think they would be fun to make.  You probably just need a little bit of patience with all that fraying.

second sock

I'll be sending Charlie back to OSU on Sunday.  I am so bummed this break is almost over for him.  Honestly, I can't believe how quickly time goes.  I mean, it's already the 5th of January!
I finished Charlie's second sock.  And I can honestly say, I love making these ankle socks.  Super quick.  And the fact that the college kids can throw them in the wash with let's say, their jeans?  Or towels?  Or sheets?  Or any of the laundry? BONUS!
