music and chocolate

We returned from our end of the summer vacation on Saturday. To a million and one things to do.
On top of the list was getting ready for the new school year that started yesterday.  And although I didn't think that I was ready for my children to go back to school, I must admit I was a little giddy when I returned to my empty house.  And I did what I do every year on the first day of school.  I blared music throughout the house and I made brownies. (Usually a box mix, but yesterday I made these.)  It was a very good day.

  1. My kids start tomorrow and I'm so sad. I live for summer vacation and I'll miss my kids being around. (And my son is a freshman and daughter starting junior high!) I think I'll make a batch of those brownies to cheer myself up!

  5. i have a couple of years until i've got an empty house during the day, and strangely, gavin is really sensitive to loud music and noise... no music through the house for me! but i think i could still enjoy some sea salt brownies. ;-)

  7. That's a great way to spend the first day! I'm still amazed at how much I can get done by noon with them gone, and then realize that I still have 2 more hours to go. I'll tire of the empty soon, but for now we should both enjoy.

Maybe I should go make some brownies.

  25. I have to steer clear of the brownies until I repair the damage from all the fried clams and ice cream, and I probably won't blare any music because I can't wait to relish the sheer and utter silence... but I'm totally with you on the spirit of the thing. Yay for back to school! Hope they had a great day, too!

  28. I found my black salt last night, which I might have to use for this. I really wish I could find the vendor I used for my specialty salts (she was at the farmer's market last year), because I'm sure she has the perfect salt for these brownies!

  36. You may have "a million and one" things to do, but remember: if you want to do something really well, you should give it your full attention.

I know this is a few days late but I have every confidence that the fambly will pull together and get stuff done!
