slow it down

It rolled around again... today. Funny how it came so quickly.
One in the big high school. (9th grade -ouch.)

One in the middle school. (7th grade -ouch.)
And one in his last year in the elementary school. (5th grade -ouch.) (Happy to take his place in the back of the bus.)
For some reason I didn't blare my music as in years past. And I couldn't seem to remember what it was I was wanting to do all summer long that I couldn't do. Funny how that happens.
I did manage to bake some brownies. And sneak in a few rows.
That seemed to make it all better.

  2. I have a feeling I'm going to feel the same way next Monday--I'll have one in fifth, third and first. And no matter how much I seem to want a quiet house this week, I just know I'll be wandering around feeling lost by 9:00 next Monday morning.

glad you got to knit a few rows!

  7. Sounds like you had an ok day. My friend used to call this first two weeks the shake down time. She had no expectations until everyone settled into their routines. Happy first day of school !

  10. I am DYING to get to my new sewing machine. But then, when I get a second to myself and go up there to give it a shot, I feel guilty I'm not doing something with the kids. So that's what I'm waiting for, I think. Some time to do the things that are kind of pointless if I really think about them too much. But I won't feel as guilty once they're in school. I think.

  11. I have got to try that Sea Salt recipe - I wanted to lick your beaters from here. I have a kindergartener and 5th grader starting next Wednesday - secretly, I'm pretty thrilled about no more big daycare bills...:)

  16. Knitting is always my salvation with moments in time like this. The passage of time is way too fast. I am sending my oldest off to her senior year in college (say it isn't so!), my middle to her senior year in high school (how is that possible?), and my baby to 4th grade (last year of elementary school here.) I will be knitting like a crazy woman! Hope you have a great school year! Thanks for the brownie recipe!

  17. I love to blast my music when I cook - drives DH crazy.

Ben goes back to school day after Labor Day and Zack starts preschool the week after that ... I'll be crying very soon. Brownies might help me.

  27. Our kids start back on the 1st. I find myself going through moments of excitment at what I'll get done and sadness as my youngest is now heading off to Kindergarten this year. We have similar aged kids (9th, 7th, 4th, and K). I'm sure I'll be a little lost at first. To be honest, I already had a little cry last night when I put my Kindergarten'er to bed and asked him "What will I do when you go to school and I don't have you to play transformers with, or be my lunch date?" He suggested I knit. Ahhhh, they know me well.

  31. Leslie,
I was on my run last night and thinking about your three kiddos and how my kids will be at age in 10 years. Seems like a long time from now, but I'm sure it will be here so soon. And then I got to wondering, "Will I be able to knit a cable sweater by then."
Anyway, thanks for sharing pieces of your sweet little life and blessings on the coming year.

  34. I'll have 9th, 5th, 2nd, and 1st graders this year.
Somehow, the 'high school' thing has thrown me for a loop. I guess I've convinced myself that I was still a 'young mother', because I still have little guys. Having one in high school has kind of made me realize that I'm not so young anymore. I don't know where the time went!
We homeschool, so I don't have to send them off, but I'm realizing that I need to enjoy every day, because it goes so fast!
Hope your guys all have a great year!

  35. It REALLY goes fast. My oldest is still home, but taking college classes this year (ouch). Her sister is 11th grade and The Little Guy is in 6th grade. Still feel like a young mum, just don't look like one anymore. ;-)
