a few of my favorites
Thursday, April 15, 2010I mentioned I would be back today. 9:49 p.m. counts as today, right? You betcha.
I found myself in need of a few baby gifts around here lately, so I packed a few in my suitcase for my beach (and airplane) knitting. I seem to gravitate towards my favorite baby knits, so thought I would share.
Favorite baby bootie:
Mary Janes. I have made these before and love the pattern. I find them totally irresistable, adorable and something to treasure. Again, I used 1 ball knit picks shine sport, grass and 1 ball knit picks risata, buttermilk.
Favorite Baby Hat:
Swirled Ski Cap from Knitting for Peace. I LOVE this hat. Fun to make and always reminds me of a little scoop of swirled ice cream. I would love to one day make this hat while making the knit stitches white, the purl stitches milk chocolate and the pom pom red. A swirled scoop of ice cream with a cherry on the top.
Sirdar lace-edge baby sweater. I have made this before, and am always pleased with the results. I love Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino for this project.
I find myself in a little bit of a limbo trying to figure out what to cast on for next. A lot of things swirling through my mind. Just can't seem to pull out the needles and cast on.
I'll be back tomorrow to show you what happened to my foldover cowl pullover.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I especially love the hat; the twist is a nice, well, twist from the usual!
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Goodness. Those booties. I am dying! With the fold-over socks! Dying.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love those booties. I must make them for ezra's english teacher who is due in june. And i haven't seen that baby sweater before - the trim makes it so special. Can't wait to see your sweater and dying to hear about your new doggie! Welcome back, L!
ReplyDeleteoh! oh! oh! love!
ReplyDeleteToo much baby loveliness in one post... I think it will send me into mama-making-hyperdrive..... thanx for the reviews :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Some lucky babies! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love taking a break from regular-sized people knitting to make a baby thing or two - you feel like you actually are getting something done, and they're always so cute, too. I've made the hat before, but those MJs and the sweater look like great new choices, too!
ReplyDeleteomg! those booties!
ReplyDeleteOMG....LOVE,LOVE,LOVE the booties!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I will keep these in mind the next time I need a baby gift. They're fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThese are all adorable. How much cashmerino did you use for that sweater?
ReplyDeleteThank you for giving me new ideas! We're getting ready to hit a "baby season", and I've been looking for things....hmmm, think I've found a few :)
ReplyDeleteThose booties are killing me! Love your new banner, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat great patterns!
ReplyDeleteI used to make lots of those little Mary Jane booties ... gosh, it must have been back in the early 1970's, for a posh Madison Ave. children's store. It was great fun to come up with all sorts of color combinations. (Of course, red and green were must-knits around Christmas!)
Best wishes!
beautiful little baby knits!! They looks so perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect little blue cupcake of a hat - I love it!
ReplyDeleteThose booties are so very, very cute!!!
ReplyDeleteEver since I saw that Sirdar lace edged baby sweater you had knit in pink, I have searched and searched for that pattern. I have been informed it is not longer available. So sad! I think it is the cutest one I have seen. If ANYONE knows where I can purchase the pattern, I would be very grateful! I have several babies to knit for too, as I think 4 of our pastor's wives at church are pregnant (one very unexpectedly at age 46~IMAGINE!) ~Jan
I have the MJ pattern too. Just haven't had a chance to make one. But I love making baby things--so quick and fun to make. :) Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletei haven't seen that hat pattern before but definitely think it will be the first thing i knit for my new baby girl. thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhile I know baby knits are small, it's still amazing how much you got done on spring break. I know my vacations (often staycations) result in me doing nothing but chores for days!
ReplyDeleteWow, you are amazing. The sweet little swirl hat in chocolate and cream with a cherry on top would be adorable. I've unraveled my entire sweater and must begin again, I'm testing yarn #1 for a ruched blanket, orange pouf still in the works, navy bamboo scarf still in the works, and I'm so intrigued by Habu Textiles. In short, I'm all over the place.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely blog and you are so talented. I do not believe the Mary Jane booty pattern is available. Any ideas where I might be able to find it. I must have it!! Thanks. Susan
ReplyDeleteYou make the most adorable baby things. Those little Merry-Janes have always been my favorites, but I don't enjoy making them. I'm always afraid they won't come out right. The sweater is perfect, and that hat tops it off just right. As my Gianna would say, "Bravo!"
ReplyDeletelove them! The once I prefer is the hat! It seems to be an ice-cream!!!slurp!;-)
ReplyDeleteThe Mary Janes are just adorable! I must knit some soon.
ReplyDeleteI love the ski hat, too. I tried that pattern once, and it seemed really weird as I was knitting it. I'll have to try again.
your idea about the hat is so darn cute! you have to make that leslie! id love to see it!
ReplyDeleteyour posts are always so inspiring, and jaw droppingly beautiful. the little collection you've put together here shows just what an eye you have for design!
ReplyDeletesorry to see the box sweater went the way of the frogs, but did agree that it wasn't as amazing as your other knits, and am looking forward to the second incarnation of this yarn.
and who is this new family member?!!
honestly...too cute, all of it!
ReplyDeleteThe booties are too cute. I wish I had a tiny baby girl I could knit them for
ReplyDeleteSO CUTE. Oh my gosh. Those Mary Janes are definitely going in the queue (thank you!) as there is another baby boom going on amongst my friends. And I LOVE your ice cream swirl hat idea!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!
