a snow day, cinnamon scones and a couple of winners

The phone rang at 5am.  After making the rounds to turn off alarms, I fell back asleep in a quiet house until 8am.  It was lovely!
Cinnamon scones were requested. Mostly by my stomach.   (I left off the cinnamon/sugar topping.)
Perfect for a slow morning.
For the rest of the day, I pretty much did nothing.  Libby curled my hair.  I drove kids.  I knit 10 rows of a hat that I look forward to sharing.  Answered a few emails.  Leftovers for dinner.
It was the best.
Have I ever told you I LOVE snow days!

The random number generator chose two numbers/names.
#6 Kelly and #68 Gina.
Please email me (address in sidebar) with your address and I will make sure you receive this fun book!

knit new york

Well, I finally made it to Purl Soho!  Charming.  Everything about it.  The yarn and fabric were so delicious.  The girls working were helpful and kind.  The place was buzzing with happy customers.  Great, great energy!  It really was a thrill for me.  I even traveled with my Knit New York book!
The fun little book is filled with 10 iconic NewYork projects.  There is a Broadway street sign to knit a cute pillow.
A street vendor hot dog.  (A bun!  Mustard!)
Of course, a yellow taxi cab.  (I soooo would have been knitting that for my guys.)
There is a pattern for "the big apple", Statton island ferry, the Statue of Liberty, don't walk-walk sign, a fire hydrant and a flat iron building.  (I keep counting... that is nine.  I don't have the book in front of me to tell you the tenth.  I guess it would be a surprise.)
Ten great knits to remember your trip, dream about a trip to NYC or just knit something different... because you can!
Well, Sterling publishing would like to give away a copy of Knit NewYork by Emma King to two of my readers.
If interested, please leave a comment here before Monday, March (!) 4th, at 5pm and I will have the random generator choose a number.

Happy knitting.

a finished knit... shocking, i know!

I bought some yarn!
At the Mendocino Yarn Shop, while on our Northern California Coastline drive.  Super sweet place to visit a yarn shop.  Own a yarn shop.  Or just hang out with a cup of coffee in a yarn shop.
Plymouth yarn, Gina.  I just loved the colors.
Turns out toasty took a little more than one ball.  I have about 3/4 of a ball left to make a pair of those mitts.

I love how they are mismatchy and found it so cool how the tops turned out to be matchy!
Isn't life fun!

Have a beautiful weekend.

recipe to love

Take out my grandmothers pinking sheers.
Add her sweet baby rick rack. (.15¢ baby rick rack! Gotta love that!)
Along with left over felt from some who knows what project. (Maybe you will get a scrap that looks like a fish.  And then you will have to stop and assemble hearts and fish on a place mat.  Bubbles help give the fish life.)
Throw in a little of this inspiration.
And you get puffy hearts to hang.  Perfect on the little tinsel tree for a LOVE-ly winter day!

Happy Tuesday!

we took a drive

Well, the drive began after the flight.
The northern California coastline.  I was smitten.
Too many fun sights and photos.  I just had to share.
It was pretty exciting to find a yarn store.
And buy yarn!
It's time to cast on again for Toasty.

for the knitters in your life

I just had to share a couple of cute, fun gifts I got for Christmas this year.  They both make me giggle when I look at them.
A retro tin bank.
I'm savin' up for knitting lessons.
I'm not exactly sure if the gentleman said to the woman or vis a vera... but one said to the other, "is wool your dirtly little secret, too?"  (I sort of dig their sweaters.)
This side of the tin says, "Ever fantasized about knitting your own work clothes?  Or instantly whipping up some winter mitts and matching scarf?  Don't fool yourself, it's gonna take some serious money to learn how.  That's where we come in with our easy-to-use Magic Wool Fund.  We'll have you savin' up before you can holler, knit one, purl two. You love wool?  That's your problem.  Our problem is helping you find the funds."
Love this girl on the phone.  She is speaking to someone who is gonna come through for her.  "I need a half gram of wool and quick!  I'm starting to come down..."
This tin was from Blue Q.
And this tote that I think is so funny.  I get such a kick out of it.  My sweet friend let me know that she purchased it here.  But when you get on that site, you should be afraid.  SO many cute things!

hooray for pom poms

I love the year I made a lot of my Christmas gifts. I sewed a quilt and coasters. I knit hats, mitts, a throw  and coordinating sweaters for the children. There was a lot of time spent on hand making. It was GREAT.
This year, I made one.
That one took me an entire year to cut and sew after purchasing the materials.  And about 30 minutes from start to finish.  Oh boy.
The materials were purchased from Purl Soho and the tutorial is on Purl bee. (Materials are listed in the tutorial.) Super easy.  Super quick.   Pretty darn cute.
When I flipped through my instagram and found this?  Well, it pretty much made my day.

the perfect hour

This happening while I was on the phone with my mother.  Feeding my body and my soul.  So grateful.

happy

Goodbye 2 0 1 2.  You taught me a lot.  Thank you.
Hello 2 0 1 3.  Looking forward to your days.

Cheers to you and 2 0 1 3.
May it be filled with Health. Joy.  Love.  Peace.  Hope.
And, many creative moments.

it's a wrap

I can't believe Christmas Day is over. Where did December go?
A few of my favorite wraps:
Love burlap.  I had a few hard gifts to wrap and a bunch of burlap in my pile.  The package in the back right is from West Elm.  Painting on burlap!  Fun.
This Target wrapping paper was perfect for Libby.
But this?
This was my all time favorite.  Clever, clever, clever.  So darn creative!  Thank you, sweet friend!

Hope everyone had a fabulous, beautiful day.

the three

I apologize for not getting back here sooner.  Life just sort of got busy... just like yours.  We had a new sort of Thanksgiving that was truly wonderful.  I will think about it for months and treasure it forever.  My parents came to town and stayed for a nice long visit.  Just a bit short of two weeks.  Knitting happened.  Projects were ripped and projects were started.  A special visit from a blog friend and her awesome family.  Oh boy.  Isn't life fun!
Congrats to Liz, Nadine and Gale.  Please email me with your address and the Place Mats will ship immediately.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Thanks so much for all the kind words regarding the Place Mats.  Blogland truly is the best.

Okay.  On with holiday knitting!
xx

{p.s.  glasses from pier one.  thank you, betsy.  i love them!}

thankful

I'd like to thank you for stopping by.  If it has been once, you're a new reader or someone that has been popping in for a long time.  It has meant so much to me.  Even through this last year.  You really are special.  I feel blessed. Heck, you are the reason for the chalkboard place mats!

I'd love to give away three sets of the chalkboard placemats.  Leave a comment between now and Tuesday, November 27, 5pm, EST and I'll have the random generator number choose a few of names.  You'll have them in plenty of time to use on your Christmas table.  And all year long for other things.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

our october kitchen

Happy Halloween!
We trick or treated tonight.  Postponed because of the storm.  All is fine here.  Our thoughts are with those who were in the storms path.  Be well, friends.
