cookies

I haven't been a total slacker with our Cookie of the Week. It is just that the cookies really haven't turned out that well.
This was last weeks cookie.  Well, you know last, last week's cookie.  Still wanting to make only slice and bakes, I used a recipe over on Smitten Kitchen.  I added dried cranberries, and sprinkled them with powdered sugar.  The problem was, that this was all I got out of that batch.  I was reading blogs, and totally ignored the timer. Twice.  They were delicious, and perfect with coffee.  It's a shame my kids don't drink coffee.  :)
And this week, I made whole wheat peanut butter slices.  Twice.  Both times the dough was so dry that when I tried to cut it, it just crumbled into little pieces.  Which resulted in odd shaped cookies.
It didn't stop the kids from eating them.  But it was totally aggravating.  I am going to try to tweak the recipe.  If I get it right, I will let you know.

School is out next Wednesday, so this is our last official cookie of the week.  However, cookies will be baked over here.  I can assure you of that.

It is Friday. And it is June!  I couldn't be happier.
Enjoy your weekend!

I tried to tell my husband that he needed to back a batch of cookies each week after seeing yours. I even bought him Martha Stewart Cookies - but so far nothing. It's so disappointing - kinda like your whole wheat peanut butter cookies! g

I hate when that happens! I made some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies a few weeks back and the dough was too soft. Even adding flour didn't stiffen up the dough much. The cookies melted on the pan. A week later I tried again but this time I had run out of brown sugar. So, I made some. And that didn't work either. Third time is the charm. Very frustrating especially with a tried and true recipe.

    Have a great weekend!

  3. I'm definitely guilty of not watching the timer when baking cookies. That always gets me:)

  4. The Smitten Kitchen recipe looks great. One of those recipes you can add whatever you have on hand. Thanks for the link. I will have to give them a try.

  5. What a bummer about the cookies! I have tried cookie recipes that turned out disastrous. I think it is great that you try to tweak them to make them work. I just give up and try something new! Let us know if the Peanut Butter ones work out - I would love to give it a try.

    Have a great weekend!

  11. I really should make some slice and bakes. I love making cookies, but I get a little tired of pulling batch out of the oven and then dropping the cookies by teaspoons.

Last week I made chocolate chip meringue cookies. Not bad despite kind of goofing on the recipe.

  18. I love cookies and I love seeing what you make. I don't bake too many any more because I eat too many.

  19. Oh Yummo, those look delicious, both of them. Whole wheat pb sounds delish, but I can image a crumbly dough would be difficult.
