I know, I am now a header hopper. I really appreciate all of your comments about that cookie/sock header I previously had (for a short while) above. And I did like it too. However, every time I looked at it, it reminded me of colder weather. Maybe it was all the red. And the ginger. But whatever it was, I decided I needed a little spring color. And since my littlest guy still makes me joyfully happy when he picks me dandelions, I decided that I needed a photo of his lastest pick up there. And a little bit of spring. Changing headers can be quite addictive too. You all do know about Picnik, right? Especially helpful to us blogger users.
Onto the knitting.  I am pretty close to finishing Ruby.  I have made little progress the last couple of days trying to figure out the welt.  I should have listened to Rebecca, knowing that she kept getting holes too.  The pattern reads y2rn = yarn round needle twice.  Isn't that just yarn over twice?  I checked books.  All of the on-line resources I knew. Isn't the point of a yarn over, a hole? Well, this sweater does not want holes!  Anyhow, I ended up doing my own thing which gave me the amount of stitches that I needed. Marking the location of the increases and increasing 4 in each location, by a M1 and an Inc into the f/b on the first row Increase.  On the second row increase, I increased into the f/b of each of the new stitches.  Have you seen Rebecca's?  Or Pax's?  They are both fabulous.  I am a bit nervous though because Rebecca used four extra balls.  Pax did not, however made her sleeves shorter.  I slimmed my sleeves down a bit, in hopes of not having to buy more yarn.  And what a bummer it would be if I needed more as I know my store does not have the same dyelot.
I didn't intend to post this recipe, but when I cut a piece of this cookie/cake type thing for my breakfast, I noticed the heart.  Of course, I had to take a photo for Noticing project's be our guest week, and thought maybe you would like the recipe.

It is super easy.  During the months of April/May when the strawberries are so inexpensive I make this a lot.  Although, any fruit would do.  Really it takes two seconds to make.  Okay, maybe three.
Cream together 1 stick butter, 1 cup sugar :: add 2 eggs :: add 1 cup flour, 1 tsp baking powder and  a pinch of salt :: spread in spring form pan that is coated with spray ::  top with sliced strawberries :: sprinkle with sugar :: bake at 350 for 45-60 minutes.

thanks for the recipe! I'm going to use it today. Every time my husband or I run to the store, we buy another pint of strawberries and we seem to have done that a lot lately so I have lots to use up.

Love the new header. Happy Spring!

I love your new header and the story to go with it warms a mother's heart.

Thank you SO much for sharing that delicious looking recipe. The perfect solution for last minute company and lately there have been more strawberries in the fridge than I know what to do with.

Ok, you totally lost me on the ruby instructions talk which is exactly why I have not seemed to preogress as a knitter. :)

  13. everything on the blog today is lovely: the header, the knitting, the baking...

i love that you researched the hell out of the yarn over. sometimes i feel like an inexperienced knitter when i have to dig through every resource to find an answer to something like that.

i hope that ruby comes together for you without the need of any extra yarn. there must be something in the air lately, as everyone's running out of yarn towards the wrap-up of projects.

  17. Fresh headers are inspirational, don't you think? I used Picnik for mine too (since I was out of town and only had access to web apps).

Your header is lovely and now, even though the little dandies closed back up, you'll have a memorial of your little guy's happy face.

  21. Leslie, you leave me speechless. I love how you make the knitting, the baking, the parenting, the photography look so second-nature and effortless.

I know you work hard to make it all happen but you *so* make it work!

  22. What a sweet bouquet. And do I see grape hyacinth (I know I butchered that spelling, lol) in there? I happen to be the proud owner of a lovely vaseful of those myself, along with our first few dandelions of the year...

Who can resist a child bearing flowers? Ds2 gave the lady at the cutting counter at Joann's a dandelion yesterday...so sweet!

  26. I ran out of wool when I was knitting a little jacket for my nephew. The shop didn't have the dye lot and at the time, it was the only store importing Debbie Bliss yarns to Australia. So, in a panic, I sent out an email to all of my overseas friends (most non-knitters). Within half an hour I got an email back from my friend Kristina in Halifax, Canada, to say that the wool shop across the road had it and would I like one ball or two! Lucky hey? So, the jacket is an international one now!Isn't it lovely to have friends all over th world?

  30. AS far as I know 'yarn round needle' is the same as yarn over! Strange that you are told to do that but don't need holes?
Hope it all comes out right in the end for you. Can't wait to see it finished :)
