spring crate

I've been remiss in mentioning my wonderful blue boxes of KnitCrate that brighten my day once a month!  Oh, how I love that day!

The March Crate's had me swooning over the colors.
Their theme this month was Metropolis.
A city rises between the desert and turquoise seas; the faded chalk colors of stucco create channels for busy passerby.

The standard crate carried the classic Knitologie Worsted,  A 100% Superwash Merino made in Peru exclusively for KnitCrate.  Four different colors that together form a gentle gradient.  Each individual skein is 112 yds totaling 448 yards one the four skeins in the crate.
I can't wait to make something out of this!
The sock crate featured cozy La Brebis Warmer.  70% Superwash Merino, 20% Sure Alpaca and 10% Nylon.  400% yards of this fingering weight goodness in my perfect shade.  I truly would love to finally knit Steve a pair of socks and this just might be the skien!

As always you can get 20% off your first KnitCrate by entering FKW20 at checkout.

Happy Mail Day!

whispers

I adore making baby items.  My go to sweater is the Barbie Lou,  however,  my friend Kim, mentioned this pattern and I figured I would give it a go.  I have a lot of stash yarn (thanks for my Knitcrates!) that I am trying to use and thought I would branch out and try a new pattern.

We headed out to Bozeman, Montana to see my son Charlie this week and I decided to pack this cute project.  I thought this yarn would be perfect for a baby girl.  A super wash merino with a bit of tinsel will be perfect for the mama.  It feels amazing and the colors are sweet.  Yet,  I'm not sure the yarn is the best choice for this pattern.  A solid would definitely show the details of the pattern a lot better.  Nevertheless, I'm sticking with it since it's all I packed!

toast

The knit I love to wear the most is hands down (Ha! Hands down, get it?!) TOAST mitts. Well, don't get me wrong... sweaters are my number one knit. However, the most worn knit I wear is TOAST.
I throw them on in the morning when the house is cold and dark and I stumble to the coffee maker.  They are a great addition to my jammies.
I throw them on when I'm wearing a t-shirt or a sweater and need just an extra something to warm my body.
I throw them on with a coat to pull over my fingers when I'm walking or driving.  They add a little extra when the steering wheel is too cold.
There truly isn't a time I don't wear them.
I must take them on and off a half a dozen times in one day.
And they are that easy to wear.  Pull down, push up, take off!
The yarn I used in my latest batch of TOAST was from my November Knitcrate.  I was thrilled when my box arrived knowing immediately that the yarn inside must be TOAST mitts. (That's the beauty of having stash!)  I knew they would be a tiny bit short of the 11" that the pattern calls for, but that would be fine.  These measure almost 10".  To make sure I would have the same amount per mitt, I used my kitchen scale.  Everyone always talks about using their scale, so I finally felt like one of the cool kids on the block.  I loved the yarn and color so much, I snagged an extra skein of each for another pair to gift.
Yarn:  Vidalana Ambiant Worsted.  !00% Peruvian Highland Wool.  100 yards/50 grams
Color:  Titan
Color: Michelangelo
Color:  Vanezia
Color:  Fresco

august and september

I have been very remiss in showing off my beautiful Knitcrates. But that certainly doesn't mean I love them any less. Just seeing that blue box in my mailbox sends my excitement to a new level!
Augusts Knitcrate came when the air was warm and my heart was trying to hold onto the last bit of summer.  Don't get me wrong.  I LOVE autumn.  But seeing the summer slip away always gets me a little sad.
These  soft colors were a welcome sight.  I fell in love with this mint color in the Membership Crate.  (And I already have a project planned for it... more on that later.)

tag your essential worker

I am so slow to show this gorgeous yarn that has been keeping my mailbox happy these last few months.  If you are like me, mail is an exciting thing especially in these times.

*I look at the mail in the mailbox.
*I wonder if I should just let it sit there.
*I come back to the mail donned with my gloves and paper bag.
*I throw all the mail into the bag.
*I stare at the mail and wonder if I can really wait to open those beautiful blue boxes.  I can't.
*I wipe down the blue box.
*I grab my scissors to cut the tape.
*I open the box.  (Tissue is covering the yarn so I still can't see it.)
*I remove my gloves.
*I wash my hands and my scissors.
ALL the while with anticipation as to what the contents are.

These are weird times.  And this is the excitement of the days the blue box arrives.

This company is so wonderful and is giving away 1000 crates to our heroes working as essential workers during this time.  Do you know a doctor, nurse, postal worker, teacher or other essential worker that may need a special treat during this time?  You can tag them here on Instagram or here on Facebook and Knitcrate will message them with a code to collect their free crate.
This was April's Knitcrate.  2 skeins of a fun yarn sporting a little sparkle.  I DO love a little sparkle.  Not sure what I will make with it, but the Diamond colorway will definitely make it onto my needles soon.
March had me ooooing and ahhhhing over this yumminess in it's Crate.   100% baby alpaca yarn,  super lightweight and incredibly dreamy.  I received colorway Ancient Pines and the knit pattern is the Decumani Hat and Cowl.  A unisex pattern perfect for a project on the go.
February's membership knitcrate contained to skeins of Audine Wools Shine Sport.  350 yards 80% Superwash merino, 20% Tencel in Sky colorway.  Another duet this time as a Hat and Handwarmers.
I'm sure those handwarmers will be a summer travel project.  If we ever get to leave the house.

january knitcrate

Well, hello February. I see spring around the corner!
February 4th to do:  Pay my last tuition check to the University of Colorado.  Wow is that a great feeling! I feel like having a party!
February 5th to do:  I really like this list.  I'm at my moms house in Orlando and sitting with my mom affords me some time to get some things accomplished.  I've been needing to put thumbs in a couple of pair of mitts, so this is a great time to be able to do that.  I also make a big batch of granola eveerytime I'm at my mom's.  My mom, the caretakers and and my sisters all love it.  Not to mention myself!  The mexican wedding cookies are one of my moms favorite so I can't wait till she tries them again.
It dawned on me I forgot to mention the beautiful Knitcrate that arrived in January.  Such happy colors inside that beautiful blue box.  I LOVE this subscription box and if I don't make what they suggest with the yarn, I get to grow my stash yarn supply.  Always a good thing.
In January, Knitcrate collaborated with Louis Boria of Brooklyn Boy Knits.  I really like the knit pattern, the Upside-Down Cowl, inspired from the Netflix show "Stranger Things".  (I am a big fan of that show!)  It's a double layered reversible cowl.  Really looks like a fun knit!
Knit Pattern:  Upside-Down Cowl
Yarn:  Knitologie Safari Sunset and Knitologie Golden Lion  Both 100% SW Merino.  (There are also two other color ways.)
This was the adorable "extra" in my box.  Not sure exactly what I will do with it, but it does fit perfectly on the top of my wine bottle!  😍

november knitcrate

Happy Thanksgiving Eve!

The beautiful blue Knitcrate box is always a fun mail day.  In my mind, November's Knitcrate patterns were some of the best. Every pattern, crochet and knit, were fabulous.  I truly would be interested in all of them.  The theme is "beneath the waves" which explores our planet's extraordinary undersea life and landscape, through colors, shimmering textures and unique patterns.
My knitcrate favorite yarn made another appearance and I was thrilled to see the yarn and color (Betta) pop up in my crate.

Pattern: As usual there are always a choice of Knit or Crochet patterns.
Knitting :: Caudil Fin Cap & Mitts
        Crochet  :: Antidunes Cowl

Yarn:  2 skeins Knitologie Glowing Worsted.  40% Merino Wool, 30% Silk, and 30% Alpaca.  Truly a new favorite yarn,  It's so soft and squishy!
The extra ::  Ahmad Tea  - I drink so much tea in the winter, so this is a perfect partner to my knitting!

april knitcrate

We are having the most spectacular Spring day!  I hope you are, too!
I am currently sitting in the car dealership getting my 30,000 mile service.  They told me it would take a couple of hours.  If I have my computer or my knitting I can sit anywhere!  Especially if it's near a window!
April's Knitcrate is bright and cheery, just like today.  The theme is Entomology.  Colorways inspired or matched up to some great photos of insects!
Membership Crate:

Knitting ::  Canopy by Destiny Meyer.  A classic top-down, triangle shawl, inspired by the canopy walk of Whiting Forest.
Crochet ::  Chrysalis by Liliana Buce-Chmelko.  A spring shoulder warmer.  Shorter than a scarf but just right for throwing over your shoulders.  It's a personal blanket with a lot more style.
The Sock Crate ::

march knitcrate

Awe. March has a lovely knitcrate. I am so loving this subtle sparkle in this super wash Merino.
Can you see it?  You may have to zoom in as it is ever so soft.  That's what makes me really love it.
The theme is Whisper.  The time when we approach a change of season, from chilly Winter to the early promise of Spring.  Or, in other parts of the world, where we change forth heat of Summer to the hope of a gentler Autumn.  Transition time.
Sock crate.
Yarn ::  Vidalana Shimmer Sock.  70% Superwash Merino, 20% Nylon, 10% Stellina.
Pattern ::  Treeometry   You can see the resemblance of trees on the socks!
Membership Crate.

Bonus :: A zippered pouch for your project.  With just the perfect words of wisdom displayed on the front.
