whatcha reading?

Thursday, July 02, 2009

I received this book last fall and immediately earmarked several projects.  The book then got placed alongside my knitting books and was sort of forgotten until Libby started reading a book she thought she couldn't read around her brothers.  The back cover had some "girl content" and she knew they would see it.
I remembered the book cover project which was perfect for concealing what she wanted to hide.
We picked out some fabric and used a contrasting brown linen scrap for the lining.  A ribbon saved from a gift from my sisters travels to Italy.  Gusto: Vigorous enjoyment.  Perfect.
There are several other projects in the book I would love to make.
A new apron may be in order.  I'm thinking brown linen would be nice.
And maybe a new set of summertime coasters.

Happy July!

Oh, gotta love that book. Definitely not a brother-friendly one, though. :) The cover is so cute! And I've just finished a book about Nancy Drew and her creators - definitely fun and girlie, though perhaps no concealment is needed.

  19. Oh the book cover is PERFECT! It's so important for young people to have their privacy as they become and mature. I believe it brings a greater understanding and dignity among us, don't you?! Like I've always said...you're the best mom. Your children are individuals and you reach each and every one. You rock, dear woman!

And that sewing book looks delicious! Yes, a new apron and coasters to set on that fantastic new picnic table would bring more summertime pleasure. Do it! Do it wild!

Peace out and a great celebration to your & yours this 4th of July holiday!

    XXOO,

Everything that I make for the Farmer's Markets seems to entail some ribbon, fabric, and paper products. So I am partial to your book cover.

You did a beautiful job. I love the green print fabric.

  45. Poor Libby, feeling embarrassed reading Judy Blume! I mean, it is, like, essential to read Judy Blume when you're a young gal. Oh, the things I missed not having siblings! Have you heard the interview with Ms. Blume on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me? It is so funny, maybe the two of you could bond over it ;) You're such a great mom to make her a beautiful book cover.

That Zakka sewing book looks awesome. I always gaze at it on Amazon, wondering if it lives up to its potential awesomeness.
