My husband gave me an antique spinning wheel that actually works for Christmas. I have been terrified to start on that. What a great chance to practice first. And I love the cookies.

Hi leslie! don't enter me...I have no desire to learn. One more piece of equipment in my house and we won't be able to move. However, where did you find those wax bags. I've found bigger ones in target, but not small ones.

I have deliberately stayed away from spinning because I just knew I didn't need one more craft to pursue (I got a loom to learn weaving last Christmas and still haven't conquered that!) But this offer is too good to resist - what fun to try together! I hope you keep us posted on how it goes for you!!

I tried spinning when we took a class at the library. We made a spinning thing out of a computer cd. I hate to day it took a long time. I went to the fair & a lady told me it takes 40 hrs to spin a sweater. There's a mill that you can pay to have them spin your yarn. I said I don't have 40 hrs to spin. I'd rather buy my yarn. Kill joy!

I have actually tried to spin. I took a very short one-hour class. I had a beautiful ashford spindle a friend gifted. I made one very small skein of yarn. And then my dh stepped on it. We epoxied it back together. A few months went by and I thought I would try again. As I was going through the wool (I have tons since I also felt), my daughter stumbled on the spindle hidden under some wool. It broke again. After about seven or eight months my dh epoxied it together again. But it is wonky and now it has been about four years since the class. I don't remember anything. I would love to learn again. The wee skein I did manage to make became a coffee cosy. I only had a few yards left :) It was very special to knit with.

Just went to a guild festival for weaving and spinning. Maybe I need one of these, too? I would love to give it a try.

I've tried spinning with a drop spindle a couple times and it always ends in tears. Literally. But I haven't yet seen those videos you linked to, so maybe I'll try again with those.
And that kit looks sooooooo lovely. Another problem with my attempts at spinning may be the extreme cheapness of the fiber.

I'd love to learn to spin. Interestingly, I got to play with wool yesterday on a field trip. We carded wool and them "spun it" using our pant legs. I now have a sweet length of wool roving-yarn.
