you try first
Tuesday, March 15, 2011Have you ever tried to spin? Well, I haven't. The whole thing intrigues and intimidates me all at the same time. Andrea's beautiful shop carries spinning kits, complete with very detailed directions and some really wonderful colors of wool roving. I do have a kit, just still a little intimidated to make some hand spun yarn. Studying these videos until I work up the nerve.
Would you like to give it a try? Well, Andrea would love to give away a kit to one of my readers. How nice!
I've been a little lax about showing our cookie of the week. Mostly because I keep repeating the same ones. However, last week and this week I made these. Crisp on the outside, chewy in the middle.
I doubled the cookie recipe and wrapped them for the week. One less thing to think about in the morning when you are packing lunches. Heck, if it were me, I'd just take the cookie and a water in my bag.
SO big they are hard to dunk, but that never stopped anyone.

ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to learn to spin- thanks for the chance to win the kit!
ReplyDeleteMy husband gave me an antique spinning wheel that actually works for Christmas. I have been terrified to start on that. What a great chance to practice first. And I love the cookies.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to give a spinning kit a try! I've been wanting to try spinning for a while.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win a kit. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMmmm, I love all things fiber. What a wonderful give away! She should include some of those cookies in the package to the winner too!!
ReplyDeleteI really don't need another hobby, but how can I turn this down ... always willing to give something else a try. Thank you for a chance at a spinning kit.

Hi i would love to win a chance to learn how to spin. i think it would be amazing.
ReplyDeleteLearning to spin is on this year's resolution list but I haven't worked up the nerve to so much as buy a kit.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try spinning but have been too intimidated! Thanks for the opportunity! This might help motivate me to try it.
ReplyDeleteI too am intimidated by the whole idea of spinning. I would love to try my hand at it. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about learning to spin for a long time - what a perfect opportunity to get started!
ReplyDeleteI agree, spinning seems so intimidating, but I would still love to learn. I would love to win the kit and give it a try finally.
ReplyDeleteI have just finished my first ever handspun yarn - very intimidating, but so worth it. I would love to really get into spinning fibers - that yarn must be favorites no matter how wonky it ends up.
ReplyDeleteI would love to give it a try! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteOh, I was so about to say that I wish you would try this and get back to me before I actually saw the title of your post. I've been dying to dry it, but I'm asceered.
ReplyDeleteoh, beware of the spinning - it's addicting! i went from spindle to wheel in the span of a few weeks. so fun - enjoy!
ReplyDeletep.s. please don't put me in the running for the giveaway; i'm drowning in fiber as it is. i'm just here for the inspiration. :))
I'd love to try! A part of knitting I've thought about before but have been too intimidated, but I love the kits!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I'd love to give spinning a try.
ReplyDeleteThose cookies look delicious.
Spinning has always intrigued and intimidated me as well. What a wonderful giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI would love to try spinning!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried spinning, but I know plenty of spinning addicts. Please count me in.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little scared, but I'd love to learn how to knit. I figure I better learn before I buy any alpacas :)
ReplyDeletespinning has intrigued and intimidated me as well, but i'd love to try it out. :) thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI would love to try spinning!
ReplyDeleteOoh. Yes, yes please! How lovely!
ReplyDeleteHow funny! I just poted today! That I'd like to learn and which wheel does one even choose? There are so many out there!!!! I've no idea where to start!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the drawing.
i've been dying to learn to spin!! i would love to win. thanks for a great giveaway!

ReplyDeleteI suddenly remeber having something similar as a kid, but I'm not sure that I know how to use it.
vonken@casema.nl
Hi leslie! don't enter me...I have no desire to learn. One more piece of equipment in my house and we won't be able to move. However, where did you find those wax bags. I've found bigger ones in target, but not small ones.
ReplyDeleteI have deliberately stayed away from spinning because I just knew I didn't need one more craft to pursue (I got a loom to learn weaving last Christmas and still haven't conquered that!) But this offer is too good to resist - what fun to try together! I hope you keep us posted on how it goes for you!!
ReplyDeleteoooohhh pleasse!!! lol... would love to add to the stash!! thanks Leslie!!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I was just thinking about wanting to learn to spin the other day. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to give hand-spinning a try! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI'm like you - I want to try, yet I'm afraid to. I'm also rather afraid that I might like it as I'm not really sure I have time for another hobby?s
ReplyDeleteI love to try new things!
ReplyDeleteI would love to give spinning a whorl. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI'm also interested to try spinning. I like the idea of being able to take a project from the very rawest of ingredients.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to give it a try. And I love how the picture of the fiber matches your cookies!! Very nice. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the pre-wrapping of cookies idea! Maybe that would help me stop eating them!
ReplyDeleteI need a spinning kit to use the wool i have sitting in the closet. The cookies look delish!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteOh I would so love a spinning kit! In the meantime, will have a go at the cookies. K x
ReplyDeleteI resisted learning to spin for years, but it's so fun and addicting, and then you have more yarns!
ReplyDeleteThose cookies look amazing! I'm going to have to bake some!
ReplyDeleteI've always been a bit apprehensive about spinning, but with a boost (and a kit!), I'd be all over giving it a try!
Great giveaway! If I win, do I get some cookies too? Lol!
ReplyDeleteI tried spinning when we took a class at the library. We made a spinning thing out of a computer cd. I hate to day it took a long time. I went to the fair & a lady told me it takes 40 hrs to spin a sweater. There's a mill that you can pay to have them spin your yarn. I said I don't have 40 hrs to spin. I'd rather buy my yarn. Kill joy!
ReplyDeleteI would love to learn to spin...do you think it would start another addiction? :o) Those cookies look wonderful, I'll have to give them a try!
ReplyDeleteSpinning.....I would love to try it sometime.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to learn to spin! I was just looking at a video and thinking about how much I wanted to start!
ReplyDeleteI already know how to spin, but that doesn't change the fact that I'd love to win a kit. :)
ReplyDeleteE-Dreamer on Ravelry
My god-mother owns about 35 alpacas and with all this great fiber around I would love to learn how to spin!
ReplyDeletehi leslie like you i feel a little intiminated by the thought of spinning but i would love to learn thank you for the chance to win
ReplyDeletei've been dyyyying to try out spinning! i mean, i probably don't need ANOTHER hobby but how amazing would it be to make my own yarn?
ReplyDeletethanks for the chance to win!
i keep the idea of learning to spin in tha back of my mind - this could be my chance! Thanks for the great give-away!
ReplyDeleteI have actually tried to spin. I took a very short one-hour class. I had a beautiful ashford spindle a friend gifted. I made one very small skein of yarn. And then my dh stepped on it. We epoxied it back together. A few months went by and I thought I would try again. As I was going through the wool (I have tons since I also felt), my daughter stumbled on the spindle hidden under some wool. It broke again. After about seven or eight months my dh epoxied it together again. But it is wonky and now it has been about four years since the class. I don't remember anything. I would love to learn again. The wee skein I did manage to make became a coffee cosy. I only had a few yards left :) It was very special to knit with.
ReplyDeleteI wish you luck with your spinning!
Just went to a guild festival for weaving and spinning. Maybe I need one of these, too? I would love to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI've tried spinning with a drop spindle a couple times and it always ends in tears. Literally. But I haven't yet seen those videos you linked to, so maybe I'll try again with those.
ReplyDeleteAnd that kit looks sooooooo lovely. Another problem with my attempts at spinning may be the extreme cheapness of the fiber.
I would love to learn to spin, but I concur regarding the intimidation factor. Thanks for the cookie recipe, too. I wanted to make something different and there it was. Yeah.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try spinning. I've even come close a few times :) maybe this is a sign.
ReplyDeleteMy girls and I would love to try! Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteLiz
Thanks for the contest!
ReplyDeleteMe! Me! Me! I always wanted to learn to spin, and then someone gave me a bag of camel hair, and it stares at me! A kit might get me to the point of dealing with that bag.
ReplyDeleteHow funny! I initially thought you baked braided bread. Not so at all! Thanks for having friends in high places and for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteI believe this must be where the expression "spin a yarn" must have come from!
ReplyDelete(of course, all of you REAL knitters already knew that :)

ReplyDeleteI'd love to have a try at spinning. It terrifies me, but then again so did knitting and I've progressed farther than anything I'd ever have imagined!
ReplyDeleteThis is the second mention I have seen of Andrea and her Etsy shop. What a great skill to have--I must admit, I am intimidated to try, but how special would it be to knit with your own handspun yarn?? The cookies look delish. ReplyDeleteI don't need to be in the contest for the kit, since I'm already a spinster (?!) but I just wanted to say, do give it a try. I have a wheel but I really love my spindles. And even your crappiest first yarn that you make will be good for something!
ReplyDeleteI would just love to learn to spin and it has been on the "to do" list forever. The kit would be perfect....
ReplyDeleteI think I would give it try. Not much knitting happening here due to some painful fingers...maybe spinning will keep the blood circulating.

ReplyDeleteOh this would be fun!
ReplyDeleteLike you I'm a bit intimidated by spinning. I suppose if I were able to be around people that spin, that might help. I'll be anxioud to hear about your first attempt, and perhaps I can join you by winning this kit. :-)
ReplyDeleteI will like to try, I feel a little intimidated, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity.
I'm with you. Don't enter me in the contest because my husband bought a drop spindle and fiber and we couldn't figure it out. Lots of videos were watched but fiber just didn't magically transform into yarn for us. Lol. Best of luck to you!
