compulsive

While making dinner {saute onion, garlic, mushrooms in olive oil until tender, add sun dried tomatoes, add white wine, simmer, add half & half, and cream cheese, cook until thickened, throw in some peas, let those cook for a few minutes, add cooked pasta, campanelle are good, toss all together, garnish with shaved parmesan } it dawned on me that I have never made fetching and should really change that.

You all do this too, right?

arent we all really good at multi-tasking?!? the fact you took a picture of this task- is proof!

  11. LOL, you're too funny. I did knit fetching, but the ones I kept for me I would have liked to be longer, my fingers still get cold! I do like the sound of dinner - might have to try that ;-)

  12. I love this picture. That you multi-task with ease, well, that's the passionate life I've been seeking within and with those to know around me, Together we in warm embrace. Compulsive is to know action and promise in dreams and days. Forge ahead in delight.

  15. I don't cook if I can't knit while I'm doing it. Those mitts are fantastic!

  16. Of course - ALL the time :-) I've never made any Fetching either.

I love that you wind your balls by hand :-)

  19. If sewing a shirt while cooking supper counts, then YES! Although I'm not sure I recommend it - I sewed the sleeves on backwards ;-)

Yeah, only I'd run downstairs to wind the yarn on a ball winder, and burn the dinner! When I think of something I want to knit, I want to start it RIGHT NOW!

  21. Ha, I love this, yup, I've absolutely done that, we ladies really are multi-taskers.

  25. Well, the fact that I had to put down the sock I'm knitting, and pause my audiobook, and close the newest knit mag to leave this comment should tell you something.
Thanks for the recipe; sounds very comforting.

  26. Oh yes, absolutely!

  27. All the time. I dread the day when my ability to multitask is lost!

And that dinner you are making...sounds fantastic!

  28. Well, actually, I just DRINK the wine, heh heh heh!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh, and P.S. if you DO make them (though I'd suggest not DURING making dinner, if you know what I mean), make them a little longer than the pattern says. Cuz they're too short as is.

  30. I have a Swift and Ball Winder permanently attached to my kitchen counter! So yes, I do that too!

absolutely so! when i get compulsive about something, i find it hard to shake it off and move on. I always have to succumb to it because I know, i really want it.

you are one of those cooks that just throw in this,a bit of that and voila, magical dinner on the plate!

  35. I must confess. I knit and drive...kinda. I have it on my lap. and at stop lights or long starbuck drivethru lines, I knit. I seem to be much calmer in the traffic now.

I promise I DO NOT knit when actually moving. :)

  36. I think about knitting all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  37. i absolutely do this! i also spin with my drop spindle while cooking. glad to know i'm not the only one!

  38. Your dinner sounds delish!

I am a very messy cook, so yarn and cooking do not mix for me:)

  39. Been there, knit fetching. You'll love them; I do. What yarn are you using? I used Jo Sharp Silk Road (I think).

  40. I manage a pottery painting store and absolutely LOVE my job, but when I'm not tending to customers or loading/unloading kilns, all I can think about is knitting. I speed on the freeway on my way home, just so I'll have those extra couple of minutes to knit. Cooking, cleaning, laundry, email... they all get in the way of my knitting needles! I don't much care for fingerless gloves (maybe because I have lived my whole life in Georgia), but these are quite lovely... lovely enough for me to understand why you couldn't put the yarn down.

Maybe this is an urban legend, but I've heard that knitters are the reason there's a pocket across the front of aprons....so when the women of yore used to wait for water to boil, they could knit a few rows on their socks. Gives "slogging along" a totally different meaning.

  42. Oh my. I'm starving and your recipe just made my mouth water! Will have to try it!! P.S. I love what you've been doing with valentines - so sweet.

  50. oh that recipe sounds divine. and yes, i am the queen of doing this. OCD is my middle name.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yes! But my yarn never gets that close to the stove---I'm too likely to spill and splash.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Quite often. I dare/challenge myself to knit another row before it boils/burns/scorches, etc...

    Happy knitting!

  53. You wrote cream cheese and I sat straight up. Yum, it sounds great!

  57. Love the yarn - Fetching is a fun one. If you want info on how to make a smaller size for Libby (I made them for my daughter), go to my Ravelry and look at my Mini Fetching project - details are there. My ravelry id is emhknits.
    Have fun!

  58. I don't usually get that way over dinner, but it always happens in the last race to the finish line in a project. More projects than I can count have been derailed this way because I just couldn't (didn't) stop myself from starting something new with less than a week's worth of work to go!

  59. Such a fun pattern and you'll be wearing them in no time at all (my favourite part).

Dinner sounds delicious! and I love the grey tones in that shot.

Those kind of thoughts are exactly what gets me through the day. We just made Valentine's similar to your's too. There's nothing like a homemade Valentine! Good luck with Fetching. Please show us them when you're done.

  64. Doesn't everybody knit while cooking? (Or sew, blog, read, etc.) Women are masters of multi-tasking. DH just shakes his head.

  65. What? I see nothing unusual about this photo...

And now I know what I'm having for diner tonight.

  66. I definitely do this, too! Your dinner sounds fantastic...and I love the Valentines cards -- we make our own as well, albeit with plain ole construction paper.

I love visiting your site and discovering that you've been so prolific. You have a serious gift for entertaining but not overly chatty posts (unlike mine, lol). :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. oh, we ALL do it in our own ways, right? of course my mother would scold you for having anything flammable near the stove, but then my mother would also scold you for not sorting the recycling even when the recycling company says you don't have to. : )
